Destiny 2: Everything You Need To Do Before The Final Shape Expansion (2024)

With Destiny 2's Light and Dark sage quickly coming to a close, there are a few things guardians, new and old, should be sure to do before The Final Shape comes out in June. Not only are there plenty of previous seasons' worth of quests in the backlog, but Bungie also released a basketful of new content to prep players for the DLC, called Into the Light. Run the new activities and complete weapon-focusing quests to ensure that your vault is fully stocked before you head into the Traveler and face the Witness once and for all.

Among the things players should keep in mind leading up to The Final Shape is the changes coming to the game with the DLC. With the expansion, players will receive a new subclass, Prismatic, which utilizes abilities from all the Light and Dark subclasses. This will add depth and diversity to the traditional buildcrafting that Guardians have enjoyed for years, so being prepared for the change will do players well.

Fully Prepare Before The Final Shape

There are a lot of ways Guardians can get ready for this reality-altering DLC before it drops on June 3, and which ways you play are totally up to you. If you want to blow through the Season pass right on drop, make sure to stack up bounties in the weeks leading up to release.

Are you a min/maxer? Play Onslaught and round out your arsenal with some of the best DPS and PvP weapons currently available in-game, explained by Aztecross in his YouTube video. No matter what your preferences, there are plenty of ways for players to be ready for The Final Shape.

Run Onslaught and the Pantheon for Weapon Drops

With the Into the Light section of content, a new repeatable activity, Onslaught, was introduced. Onslaught's loot table includes some really powerful weapons if you get the right roll, so it's well worth spending time completing BRAVE weapon quests to get that elusive perfect weapon.

To begin, head to the Hall of Champions location in your director to get the quests from Shaxx and Arcite 99-40. This will open up both the low-level, 10-round Onslaught, as well as the longer, 50-round Onslaught. Choose one or the other depending on how much time you want to spend and defeat enemies!

There are also quests that will allow you to focus on certain BRAVE weapons, giving them a higher chance to drop during Onslaught activities. Are you looking for the elusive Envious Assassin/Bait and Switch Edge Transit grenade launcher? Defeat enemies using heavy GLs and turn your completed quest in to focus the drop. This applies to each weapon obtainable in Onslaught, each with its own specific quest.

Earn All Seven Wish Tokens

During the Season of the Wish, Riven provides the Guardians with the chance to have seven wishes granted in the form of wish tokens. These tokens can be exchanged for a few things, including red-border weapons from the Last Wish raid.

This is notable, as the right roll of the Apex Predator rocket launcher is nearly essential for higher-level content like raids and the more difficult dungeons. Alongside the raid weapons, Guardians can also pick up Legend Lost Sector exotics from previous seasons, meaning you don't have to spend any more time grinding out one of the most difficult solo activities in the game.

To earn all seven wish tokens, complete six quests that Mara Sov gives to you in the H.E.L.M; after each quest is completed, she'll reward you with one token. The last quest, which asks you to complete the Prophecy dungeon, rewards two tokens for a total of seven. Here is each quest you'll have to complete to earn them all:

Quest

Description

Riven's Wishes I

Complete 3 Rift Generator Public Events & complete 30 Dreaming City activities.

Riven's Wishes II

Open 7 Ascendant Chests (via a Tincture of Queensfoil).

Riven's Wishes III

Defeat combatants in Legend or Master Lost Sectors.

Riven's Wishes IV

Complete a Tier 3 Blind Well and defeat targets in the Blind Well.

Riven's Wishes V

Defeat 80 Taken Bosses or Pauurc, the Farseer’s Heir in the Dreaming City.

Riven's Wishes VI

Complete the Prophecy dungeon.

If you decide not to buy any of the red-borders or exotic weapons offered in exchange for these wish tokens, you can also decide to trade them in for some valuable crafting materials including Lost and Dawning Mementos, Ascendant Shards, Ascendant Alloys, or an Exotic Cypher. These are all tricky to obtain, but if you don't want to buy your Ascendant Shards here, there are a few good ways to grind for Ascendant Shards instead. No matter what you choose, these rewards will keep you comfortable before heading in to The Final Shape. The rewards provided here will ensure you're ready to defeat the enemies of humanity.

Pre-DLC Housekeeping

Vaults and Bounties and Shaders, Oh My!

As with any looter-shooter, Destiny 2 players will quickly accumulate an impressive arsenal of weapons, many of them useless. If you notice that your vault is looking a little full pre-Final Shape, consider cutting down on some of those older weapons and armor.

Though Bungie is expanding players' vaults by 100 slots with the DLC, you'll quickly fill them up as you play, so clear up some space so that you can keep any exciting new weapons you find while fighting the Witness.

While you're out grinding Onslaught, consider saving up some of those bounties so that you can cash them in right when the new season starts and give your Season pass progress a little boost. This is less important to your overall DLC experience but can help give you access to the pass rewards you might need, like Ascendant Shards and Bright Dust.

A good stack of bounties can net you upwards of 20 season levels if you do it on all three characters, but don't stress if this isn't your cup of tea. There will be plenty of stuff to do in-game to complete your season pass before the next episode.

Finally, if you've run out of things to do, why not go for the Superblack shader in the Hall of Champions? Krypz models some of the looks this shader can create in the YouTube video above. The shader can be obtained by maxing your vendor rank with Lord Shaxx in the Hall, which is done by playing Onslaught and completing Onslaught bounties.

No matter how you spend your time pre-Destiny 2: The Final Shape, it's certain to be a good time. Stack up powerful weapons, wrap up all of your Season of the Wish activities, and prepare yourself to finally enter the Pale Heart of the Traveler.
