Please join in this Great Northern Discussion with Heidi McKillop, President & CEO at ASN Productions Ltd. as we dive deep into her latest Documentary - Generation Green. We do get into how Heidi even started down the filmmaking path, which began right here in Downtown Calgary, recognizing the need in the energy sector for finding a balanced voice for the general masses. This documentary is absolutely fantastic, well-balanced, thought-provoking, and while I truly adore Heidi and all that she brings to the table, I couldn't help but want to dissect the hell out of her film with her. (available here- https://lnkd.in/gTsgaCXG)What starts as an investigative journey into the cost benefits and negatives surrounding Wind and Solar Energy, it really turns into a film about citizens, at the grassroots level trying to protect their own lands from being destroyed.....by Green projects from infringing on their territories. The Riplinger Wind Project was a TransAlta proposal for 37 Wind Turbines to be built in and around Waterton National Park. These turbines are the size of Calgary Tower, for perspective. What ensues is essentially a battle between good rural folk, and big corporate. I use the word "battle" loosely, but to say this was hotly contested would be an understatement. This did get "some" media attention, but not enough in our humble opinions. There are so many different avenues we take in the interview I just can't spoil it, so I suggest checking out the documentary and then watching this behind the scenes glance into how this movie even came to be. It's a true testament to the resilience of rural Western Albertans! How far are we willing to go, for the sake of going "green"? AND, where do green alternatives work when it comes to rural vs residential? Is the rural vs urban divide getting greater? I had the pleasure of sitting down with Heidi McKillop who directed and produced her film called Generation Green which can be viewed here and available in GND Playlists on our Youtube page. Here Heidi discusses meetingStephan Blum and Angela Tabak and their undertaking as concerned citizens on what was proposed in one of Alberta's most cherished and visited tourist areas. While it is an investigative documentary into the push for delivering green energy projects, the film produces its potential impact on humans and begs the question, at what cost?It is a story about citizens, banding together to prevent the Riplinger Wind Project which was a proposal to build 37 Wind Turbines, the size of Calgary Tower, right in the sightline of beautiful Waterton National Park in Alberta. This truly ends up being a story of David vs. Goliath, rural folk vs big corporate. This also begs the question, where was all the media attention on this?GND#21 with Heidi McKillop, President & CEO ASN Productions Ltd. out tomorrow folks on all Pods and Youtube!Video Link to Documentary Generation Green here:https://lnkd.in/g-CpHqag

Good day folks!Small hiatus with work etc but wanted to share this documentary called Generation Green. I was invited to the pre-screen at plaza theatre by Heidi McKillop the President and CEO of ASN Productions Ltd.She makes a well-balanced investigative doc that really ends up being a story about humans and the infringement of massive Green projects into rural areas. This is in no way an attack on the Renewables sector, in fact it celebrates and welcomes the arrival of this technology but it also stresses the importance of fossil fuels in the progress for these initiatives.Stay tuned for GND #21 with Heidi McKillop as we got to really dissect her film and learnings during this process. Please share the film it’s extremely important to stay informed!https://lnkd.in/grqEVbgP

Claire Masikewich is on a mission to raise awareness around Childhood CancerHer daughter Sloane was diagnosed wtih Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a rare and high risk form of Cancer. Why don't we want to talk about cancer in children? Because it's hard. Plain and simple. But we do here. I had a wonderful and honest conversation with Claire on her family and Sloane's journey from original diagnosis, to her surgeries and treatments to raising awareness and funding for research into defeating this killer. Claire and her family came up with the Strong Like Sloane campaign to help raise $$, along with other initiatives such as Heartbeats for Hope, and 183 Runners will be running for Sloane in the Upcoming Calgary Marathon to try to hit their personal goal of $80,000. They are so close! To donate:https://lnkd.in/gtUX9XgGGND#20 up now on all Pods and Youtube:https://lnkd.in/dR7wxn2P🍎 https://lnkd.in/d7TuBfxsSpotify:https://lnkd.in/dkfccSpS

https://lnkd.in/gT2gSxE7Claire Masikewich had the seemingly normal storybook tale of a healthy young family of four. Until the fateful day of May 26, 2023. Sloane Masikewich, 5 and half years old and the youngest sibling to sister Indy, wasn't feeling very well one may long weekend. Her signs and symptoms didn't seem too serious for anybody to fuss about, but she kept on getting worse including fever, body aches and pains. No big deal right? What started as a routine 811 call to Alberta Health Link, then a visit to Alberta Children's Hospital, it soon became apparent there was much more going on inside of little Sloane's body than met the eye. She was devastatingly diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma the next day, a rare and high risk form of cancer among children. There are only 1500 cases annually in Canada, or up to 237 in Alberta alone. She has had a long road of surgeries, chemo, radiation, stem cell transplants and immunotherapy since this time. The question coming to mind now for the family is, why does there seem to be a lack of funding directly forwarded to pediatrics for research into childhood cancer, and to what risk are we leaving our children given these extreme doses to beat these diseases. Though Sloane is in remission a year later almost to the day, she is not out of the woods yet.Claire has become an extremely vocal voice in the childhood advocacy space starting up campaigns such as "Strong Like Sloane", and "Heartbeats for Hope" In this episode we tackle the entire journey for the Masikewich family.
