Overall, I like the story, the gist of it, the bones. The idea was good, but the way the story was told seemed awfully YA and sometimes silly (like Piers Anthony). It tried my patience and so I skimmed a lot. I stuck it out and finished because I wanted to know what happened, so the overall plot had that going for it. Something that did work, oddly, was the way the story was told - first person for Myhr (the not terribly deep but very genial sidekick) and third person for a couple of other point of view characters.

I originally found this book in an airport bookstore. A luminal space is the best place to locate this book.

Myhr is an odd character, half man and half cat! It's a big hit with the children and the ladies, alike. He and his friend, Terrin the wizard, are just a little bit lost as they bounce around from world to world trying to find their way back home to Earth. Our Earth. They probably would have made it by now if it weren't for all of these other worlds in the way, just like how Columbus would have made it to India if the Americas hadn't been in the way. Their latest planet seems to have a problem, and a majorproblem involving a river from Hell sucking all the magic from the world, including any magical people. All Myhr and Terrin want to do is get home where there's pizza, TV, indoor plumbing, and techno raves, but if they want to do that, they are going to have to help the recently widowed Lady Filima, an incredibly gorgeous and clever woman who does not seem too grief-stricken over her husband's departure. If they fail, the entire world will be joining Lady Filima's departed husband. Three things I did not like about this book: Only one character is written from a first-person POV, and while it is still easy to follow, it is a tad confusing. I wish we could have followed Terrin a bit more. I could have done without some of the more sexually focused jokes and juvenile humor in an otherwise pretty serious book. Three things I liked about this book: There are a lot of characters being juggled about, but each one is unique enough to keep them from getting confusing. The approach to magic is pretty unique and simple. The plot is fantasticly gripping. On a scale of 1-10, I give this book a 7. I admit, it is a guilty pleasure of mine, and it makes me laugh, but be warned if you are sensitive to suggestive humor or are not of the adult persuasion.

Myhr and the wizard, Terrin, are bouncing from world to world as they try to find their way home. Myhr is a half-man, half-cat with no memories of his early life. Terrin loves music raves and has questionable taste in clothing. Their latest world jump ends them up on a world where most of the local magic users seem to have vanished and been forgotten. There is a black fog-like river that normal people can't see flowing through the town every night and draining what little magic is left. Myhr and Terrin must solve the mystery and quickly if they ever want a chance to return home. I read this several years ago . I liked it then and enjoyed it now. It is a good example of fantasy from that time. Heroes more interested in having a good time than fighting, wizards that are very powerful but have limitations (until the conlusion of the story, at least), a dash of mystery, and a lot of stuff left unexplained. Like how Terrin and Myhr started their world hopping and how they got lost. What are Myhr's origins? (Check out the author's webpage for some of the real background of Myhr.) This was a fun book and I wish there were more of them.

Light-hearted, well-written fantasy, with interesting characters and a refreshingly honest POV. Myrh's narration really made the plot work: his honest assessment of the sometimes ridiculous situations he found himself in plus a sense of humor and general positive outlook on life kept the story grounded. I also liked how elements of sci-fi and fantasy were used almost interchangeably - magic as just another technology. But the best part for me was that Myrh and Terrin are from modern day (ish?) Earth, and have all the same reference points that I might have (can we talk about breaks in the space-time continuum some more?). Funny, clever, with likeable characters, and a twisting plot - I definitely recommend this one.

A fun book for when you need a shorter, laid-back book. The middle sagged a little for me, but not enough to stop reading (I think this was mostly due to the length; this would have been a perfect book if it was about 75 pages shorter, but it's a trad book so it's going to be 350-400 pages no matter what). The body switching was fun, as was the accidentally trips (plural) to hell.

This was a fun read. There's no sequel that I know of, so I think is was written as a break between other series of the author. It's a good 'wrong place, wrong time, we have to fix this' type of book.

Another vacation read -- funny, though not inspired. Quincey Morris was better.

A little too tongue in cheek for me. But I liked the plot

Cute, light read. The premise reminds me of Sliders, but done for humor.

It's a light, funny fantasy adventure that speaks from a place of love for the genre. Solid fun read as long as you don't expect too much.
